Like a thief in the night, my hairline is trying to slip away. I didn't notice it until after latching the hairline area of my locs, which I hadn't done in a couple of months. It's not bald, but the hair that lays there is just that, laying there, I can't pick it up, twist it or nothing. So I've decided to redo my products. It's all stuff I already had in my product baskets, I'm gonna use what I got, to get what I want. (Hey, that's a old song, but I can't remember the name of it.) (Help me with the title somebody)
So right now I have 2 spray bottles that I alternate daily.
One spray bottle has a generous squirt of grape seed oil and half a tube of smooth n shine and the rest is distilled water. This has helped a lot with the dryness of my hair it was a little crunchy, I don't spritz as much in the winter because I'm in and out so much and it's been hella cold out there.
The other bottle is distilled water and HydroVeil Bio-Botanical Hair Nourishing system with Echinacea. The bottle states it provides refreshing scalp and hair renewal for braided and locked hair. I got it on a whim about a month or so ago and spritzed a couple of times and put it in the basket and forgot about it. It's not heavy or medicine smelling, it has a nice fresh smell to it. I know these stores don't like you to open products, but I will sneak and take the sniff test before I buy something for my hair, cause some of those products stink! I mix this about half and half with the water. I don't know why I don't use it full strength, I just like my spritzes mixed with distilled water.
I had a bottle of vitamin E oil because my daughter has problems with the corners of her mouth splitting from dryness during the winter and the E oil clears this up in a couple of days. So at night I rub E oil on my edges then smooth some Palmer's hair milk also on the edges and tie down with a satin scarf that I got from Walmart, then put a satin cap over the exposed crown and call it a night.
I mainly use the Palmer's on my daughter's hair because right now her hair is completely natural and she's wearing Marley hair braid extensions. So once a month she shampoo's her hair and I use the hair milk to moisturize her hair, it's better than Motions or Luster's pink moisturizer. I also spray her scalp in between with Dr. Miracles braid relief. It really keeps her scalp from flaking, then put the braids back in. (loosely) I don't want her having problems from too tight braids. I usually put in about 25 braids and she wears it in a updo. So it only takes about an hour and a half, I braid from the scalp to halfway and she finishes the braid to the end so I can go on to the next braid. I'm glad she knows how to braid and she braids underhanded like me. I have no idea what she's going to do with her hair when she finally gets to the length she wants, I pray she doesn't want any more relaxers. But I think she's learned her lesson there too, she's washed a lot of hair down the drain from over processing.
I have a thin satin cap that I always wear under any hat that I wear outside, because I do know what friction can do to your hair. Plus it keeps my hair from getting frizzy.
I'm going to give this a couple of months and see what happens. But most definitely my hairline is going to be freeforming for a long while.
