Loc Ramblings......

Well, I learned two things this week. The HydroVeil Rejuvenating Scalp and Hair Mist that I thought I really liked is ok when diluted with water as a spritz, but suxs when sprayed directly on dyed hair. I'm talking roots that were nicely covered up with hair color, being stripped of color with one spritz of the stuff! My scalp was feeling a little dry, so I picked up the bottle and straight sprayed on my scalp, and immediately started seeing sparkles! I'm like WTHITS! I'm dabbing with a washcloth because I'm thinking it's the spray setting up on my roots. Nope! It totally removed the haircolor! The sparkles was my grays! I don't have a picture to post, but if you want to see the bottle, go to my 02.09.09 post. Another thing that I know is that tea tree oil will also strip color. I found that out with the oil mixed with water and from using Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree shampoo. Sheesh!

The second thing I learned is that my locs love to bunch. It's like they wait until I'm all comfortable with my progress and the next thing I know I've got 5 or 6 jacked up locs just sticking out there, HELLO! So I'm taking them down and latching them over, (will this ever end?) and decided that when I shampoo, I'm going back to the banding, and I mean serious banding. Now I didn't take a picture of this either cause I was so steamed at having to redo my roots again that I didn't take the time. So I took sections of locs and banded from near root to near end using at least 2 elastic bands on each section, pulling them out straight so that when banded they stood straight up. I did my retouch the root thing then rinsed carefully so's not to darken the ends but also to ensure all color was removed. Which was easy cause the ends were sticking straight out. Did my condition water mix and rinse and let the bands stay in until my hair was almost dry. It really straightened them out and they lay close to my head for a change. Plus they're all the same width from root to end, it got rid of the puffy ends that some of them had. It's like they were palm rolled with out all the work. That's the result on my Tagged video on youtube. I can actually wear them in a low ponytail at the back of my head. I didn't use any oils or anything this time. I'm going to try to go a month and just leave my locs be.

Back long time ago before I knew about natural soap and shampoos and such I used to shampoo my hair with Kirks coconut bar soap. I used it whenever I would get tired of the perm and I would chop all my hair off. This soap would tighten up my hair so I could wear my little fro. I had forgotten all about this until I saw a bar of it in the grocery store. That was way before I even heard of Dr. Bronners. Just thought I'd mention it. I think I'm going to get a couple of bars just to have, just cause.

  3. Thank you! I'm trying to get up enough nerve to try this on my locs. I'm thinking, just make a good lather with my hands then apply to my locs, instead of rubbing the bar on my hair (that's what I did when I had my twa).
