Recycling

The subject of saving a loc came up in one of the hair groups I belong to and lately I've been in the lurk mode. But I thought this might help so I mentioned that I saved the loose hair when I started my braid locs, I also saved some from different times that I've redone a loc and after going thru my bag I noticed I have about 4 different colors from my hair dyeing adventures during the past year. I've used strands when I've had to clip a loc after accidentally joining two together with the latch hook and one loc is left with a small amount of base. I've even used it when I redo a loc and the end is very skinny and I want to make it a little more full on the end. I wish I could glue it to the bare spot at my temple (just kidding), but even that's making pretty good progress with the oils and massaging my scalp once a week. Since I've been latching with the yarn needle, I don't have the problem of joining locs together anymore.
One good thing about keeping this hair is I have a color to match whatever color I'm wearing at the moment and since it's my own, hey! I'm recycling!

  1. I think that is a very excellent Idea! I have to save some hair the next time I trim my locs!

  2. Nothing wrong with that sis! I wish I had known that when I was a loose haired nappy. With all the hair that I would loose during detangling, I probably would have had enough to make my own extensions for ALL of my locks! lol

  3. When I first started keeping some of the hair, I didn't have a purpose for it, I just wanted to have a little to remind me of when I wore my hair in a loose natural, when I got that thin loc I first grabbed my trusty brown weave thread then I thought about trying using the hair instead, so far it's worked pretty good and it doesn't show like the thread did.
Nubian, sis, I'm glad you liked the idea, and Msfullroller, it would really be nice to have enough of your own hair to make extensions, LOL!
