It's been a little over a year since my last post and my daughter's locs have matured and grown so much. So much in fact that she takes every chance she can get to tease me about it. "I'm coming for ya!" she says. I tell her she can't touch my locs, I'm fierce! And on and on.... But she has really enjoyed her journey and I've learned alot from it also.
For a while she was afraid to do anything but have them washed and then retwist with a gel to hold them. But it seemed they weren't being given the chance to do what they do. So I made up a spritz of lavender water last summer and told her to just spray your hair and let it dry every few days and see what it does. She was happy with the results, the locs started to mat better and condensing and later she started seeing that "hang time" that we all wait for.
She enjoys changing the color of her locs and they have been reddish brown, dark brown and carmel and later added the blonde eight locs in the front. She decided black would look better with the blonde so these pics were done Feb. 2011. On April 7th we recolored using a black and covered the blonde locs. The color helped make the blonde feel softer also. Bleach is so drying. So right now her ritual is shampoo about every 3 weeks, towel dry and then braid about ten locs per cluster, air dry and add some oil and that's it. She has so much confidence now and she has also lost 65 lbs. since last year. I'm so proud of her!
wow her locs look fantastic, I love the black and blonde looK!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, she looks fabulous and what a transformation in her locs! You should be proud as you've done a fantastic job on them!
ReplyDeletehi kumina! nice to see you posting again; how are you? your daughter's locs look so good and they have really grown. betta watch it girl--she just might catch you! blessings
ReplyDeleteOoh! You daughters locs are really coming along! What is going on with yours, Kumina! I`am still here lurking quietly! Love ya!!!
ReplyDeleteYahvinah, my daughter said to tell you thank you. I'm so glad to made the choice to loc. Being like her mom, a creature of change she has already dyed the blonde black now so we'll see how that lasts before she does something else. I told her she better enjoy it now while coloring is a choice, instead of like me where it is a necessity to cover the gray. I know I don't have to color them but right now it's my preference.
ReplyDeleteHey Msfullroller! Thank you and I am very proud of her locs. I've had people ask me to do theirs but I know they expect perfect results and I don't want that kind of experience. My daughter knew from the jump that this was going to be a hit or miss type of situation and she was up for it. I just don't have the confidence to do others hair. I was looking at your update...girl, your hair sure has grown over the years and they look gorgeous! I need to check some of your old posts for some rinses and spritzes, I'm ready to try something new.
ReplyDeleteHi Janel! I havent been posting just lurking for a while. I always check on your blog to see what you're doing with the makeup. I was a makeup addict years ago and I slowly just faded down to lipstick or gloss. I gotta get my "embellishment" back with the face! My daughter is forever saying she's going to pass me up, LOL and I know she will. I told her she's 22 with young folicles go head on I can't even try to keep up. My folicles are as tired as me. Blessings to you also.
ReplyDeleteNubian! It seems like we went on a break at the same time. I hope you're healing well after your surgery. I just finished retightening and braiding Bri's locs for her. She got a promotion at work and wants everything just right, I'm proud of her. My locs are quietly doing their thing, every once in a while I'll take note of the growth. Right now I'm using conditioner more because it seems they are thinner than they used to be, maybe it's part of the condensing, I don't know. But I have had to clip some of the ends that started to dangle. I know that's the oldest hair and I've done so much to it over these 3 yrs that I need to start babying them a little more. Take care of yourself now, love ya back!
